At approximately 2211 hours Chico Police Dispatch received a call from the manager of a local pest control business on Mangrove Ave. The manager told dispatch through onsite security video he could see an unknown male subject actively inside the gated area of the business, entering storage rooms and removing property.
Shortly after the report a solo Chico officer arrived on scene and took up a position of observation, waiting for a second officer to arrive. As the officer watched the location a male suspect, identified as Craig Ferguson, exited through the once locked gate, carrying property. The officer suspecting Ferguson was getting ready to leave the area announced herself as a Chico Police officer and told Ferguson to stop. Ferguson immediately started run from the officer. The officer chased the suspect a short distance before taking him into custody on Mangrove Ave.
Further investigation revealed that Ferguson, after breaking the lock on the gate, forced entry into several outside storage areas and removed tools, then staged them outside the gate. Ferguson then returned into the business to gather more tools before ultimately trying to leave with the stolen property.
The actual value of the property Ferguson attempted to steal is still being determined by the business owner. Ferguson was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail for commercial burglary.
