Redistricting Process: Selection of Final Map Completed and Available for Viewing

The City of Chico’s redistricting efforts have been finalized and Map 6C was selected by the Council and adopted by resolution as the map that will be used to adjust district boundaries following the 2020 Census.  Public Submission 6C Public Submission 6C

Below are the final maps advanced by the City Council at the Special Meeting held on March 29th and were considered for final approval at the Fifth Redistricting Public Hearing on April 5th.  

At the fourth public hearing which was held at a Special Council meeting on Tuesday, March 29th, the Council received additional citizen input on the maps presented at that meeting.  The Council selected three final maps that will be considered at its meeting of April 5th.  Meeting Video: http://chico-ca.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=1060

At the third public hearing held on March 15, 2022, the Council moved five maps forward for further consideration which were the following maps:  Demographer Map 4 Demographer Proposal #4, Demographer 5 Demographer Proposal #5, Public Submission Map (Goldstein 1000) Map - Public Submission #2, Public Submission Map 6 (Help People Vote) Map - Public Submission #6, and Public Submitted Map #7 – (Heart of Chico) Map - Public Submission #7.  

Council also requested that the Demographer provide three additional maps which included modifications to Demographer Maps 4 & 5:  Demographer Proposal 4BDemographer Proposal 5B, and  Public Submission Map (Goldstein 1000) Public Submission 2B, and extended the time frame for citizens to submit additional maps to 5:00 p.m. to Monday, March 21, 2022.  The Council also called for one additional special public hearing to be held on March 29, 2022 meeting to provide for additional citizen input. Hearing Notice:   3/29/22 Special Public Hearing Notice  

Additional Maps Received – 3/21/22 – New public submissions were received.  Two maps were citizen revisions for Public Submission 6 (Public Submission 6BPublic Submission 6C, one by the original author and one by another citizen. The City also received two revisions for Public Submission 2 Public Submission 2CPublic Submission 2D, both by Bryce Goldstein, the original author.

Past Actions: It should be noted that seven citizen maps were received by the February 14th deadline and are still available for viewing.  The Demographer also provided three proposed maps.  All ten maps were presented for Council’s consideration during the Public Hearing scheduled for March 1, 2022.  Please note that Council meetings are now being held in person.  After reviewing the proposed maps, please email any comments or questions  to: RedistrictingEmails@chicoca.gov
