Child Hospitalized for Heat Exposure

Case# 20-004005

Post

Chico, CA – On 7/26/20 at 4:32 p.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a parent of a four year old girl found suffering from heat exposure in the back seat of the family vehicle. Chico Fire, Butte Medics and Chico Police responded quickly and found the girl conscious but suffering from heat exposure. She was transported to Enloe Medical Center and is in stable condition under observation.

Chico Police did a thorough investigation into this incident and determined no negligence on the part of the family. Officers learned that the girl had gone outside the house without the family’s knowledge and gotten into the family vehicle after mom arrived back home from the store. The vehicle was cool at the time she got into the vehicle. When her parents realized she was missing, they searched and found her curled up in the back of the vehicle. They promptly got her into a bathtub and called 911.

Understandably, this was a traumatic event for the family which could have been tragic if not for the quick actions of her parents and the first responders. She is expected to make a full recovery.
