Chico Police Mark 84th Anniversary of Officer Carleton Bruce’s Line of Duty Death

On Tuesday February 22, 2022, the Chico Police Department will pay tribute to fallen Chico Police Officer Carleton Bruce. Officer Bruce is the only Chico Police Officer to have lost his life in the line of duty. On February 22nd, 1938, Officer Bruce and another officer went to a downtown Chico business to investigate a disturbance. As they arrived, they confronted a man armed with a rifle. In the firefight that ensued, Officer Bruce was shot in the stomach. He later succumbed to his injuries. The Chico Police Department has made a vow to never forget Officer Carleton Bruce. Each year we honor and remember him to pay tribute to the sacrifice he made on behalf of the community of Chico.
