Burglary Suspect in Custody

On 8/4/2022, at approximately 3:00 am, an unknown suspect burglarized the Valero Gas Station located at 2233 the Esplanade. The suspect was able to make entry into the business by falling through the roof. Once falling through the roof, the suspect stole numerous items before fleeing. The following morning, Officer Cory Barrow began his investigation into the burglary and reviewed video surveillance. While viewing the surveillance, Officer Barrow noticed the subject was wearing distinct clothing. On todays date (8/11/2022) at approximately 2:15 pm, Officer Derek Ament was investigating an unrelated call for service in the 2300 block of the Esplanade. Officer Ament made contact with 28-year-old Florida resident Joseph Martin wearing similar clothing to the suspect in the burglary Officer Barrow was investigating. Officer Barrow was able to identify Martin as the suspect based on video surveillance and other incriminating evidence. After a short interview, Officer Barrow developed enough probable cause to arrest Martin for commercial burglary. Martin was transported to the Butte County Jail for violation of 459 PC – (Commercial Burglary).
