Burglary Suspect Arrested

Case#22-000301

Post

On 1/15/2022, at approximately 7:30 pm, a Chico Police Sergeant contacted 31-year-old Chico Resident Michael Borden in the parking lot of 2402 Cohasset Road. The sergeant contacted Borden because he was observed quickly walking away from a vehicle that was left parked and unattended in the gas station parking lot. Borden also had in his possession a high-end Specialized Mountain Bike valued at nearly $4,800. During the contact, Borden claimed to have a loaded firearm on his person and believed he had several outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Based on the information, officers detained Borden, and during a search of Borden – officers located a replica firearm and methamphetamine. Once detained, the direction of the investigation turned to the very expensive mountain bike Borden had in his possession. During this portion of the investigation, it was to no surprise that officers learned the bicycle was stolen from a residential burglary that occurred earlier in the week. The officers then directed their attention to the vehicle Borden was observed driving. Officers conducted an inventory search, and the officers located numerous garage remote controllers and possible additional stolen property. Ironically - one of the garage remote controllers located inside the truck belonged to the victim of the stolen bike. The victim in that case, reported that an unknown subject broke into their vehicle and stole numerous personal belongings to include their remote to their garage door. The thief decided to use the garage door opener to gain access to the victims garage and steal the bicycle and other items. Borden was arrested for multiple charges, including Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.
