On 1/14/21, at approximately 9:22PM, Chico Police Dispatch
received a report from a concerned neighbor regarding a residence
in the 1100th block of Salem Street. In particular, a
strange man was loading items into a vehicle from an open
When officers arrived in the area, a male, later identified as Jason Lee POWELL, age 40, fled on foot into the surrounding neighborhood. Multiple Chico Police Officers responded to the area, set up a perimeter containing the suspect within a one block radius. A subsequent house to house check by Officers and CPD K9 Unit, POWELL was located hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1200th block of Normal Street. POWELL was taken into custody without incident. During a custodial search, POWELL was in possession of burglary tools and brass knuckles.
From the investigation, Officers discovered the residence POWELL was burglarizing was occupied by the homeowner at the time and multiple pieces of property taken from the garage of the residence was located inside the vehicle associated with POWELL.
POWELL was later transported to Butte County Jail where he was booked for First Degree Burglary, a violation of 459 PC, resisting arrest, a violation of 148(a) PC, possession of brass knuckles, a violation of 21810 PC, possession of burglary tools, a violation of 466 PC and two outstanding felony warrants.
