Burglary Suspect Apprehended in Stolen Dry Clothes

Case# 21-003234

On 5/30/21 at approximately 4:04 PM, Chico Police Dispatch received a report of a subject stealing items from a citizen’s shed.  The citizen had previously contacted the subject and he had refused to leave her property. This brazen burglar remained on the property as the citizen made her report to Dispatch.  As Officers arrived on scene, the subject fled the area and walked down to the Big Chico Creek.   The suspect stripped off his clothing to cross the creek and avoid identification.

As Officers checked the area for the suspect, Dispatch received a report from a homeowner on the other side of Big Chico Creek.  They reported that a subject had entered their yard and subsequently fled to another
neighbor’s yard.

As Officers continued to search numerous backyards, Officers contacted a suspect fleeing an upset resident of Oak Park Ave.  The suspect was detained without incident.  It was soon discovered that the suspect had entered the residence of the upset resident on Oak Park Avenue and stole clothing. The suspect attempted to alter his appearance in an attempt to evade Law Enforcement and apprehension.  Not today.

The subject was identified as Kaleb Shults (29 yrs old).  Shults was arrested for two violations of Burglary (459 California Penal Code).
