Burglary and K-9 Apprehension
Case#: 20-000195
On 01-10-20 at approximately 0810 hours, Chico Police responded to the report of a burglary at 1661 Forest Avenue. A security guard had reported a male suspect broke into the club house and was still inside. Police arrived and set a perimeter around the portion of the club house which contained the suspect. A window had been broken from an exterior door to gain entry to the club house.
Verbal commands were given for approximately 20 minutes, but the suspect refused to come out. Officer Martin and his K-9 partner Aron were called to the scene. Additional commands were given to the suspect, but he still refused to exit his hiding place. K-9 Aron entered a restroom and located the suspect. The suspect was bit by Aron but struggled and refused to be peacefully arrested. The suspect kicked K-9 Aron multiple times during the arrest.
A Taser was deployed and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was identified as David Markoe. Markoe was arrested for burglary, resisting a peace officer, assaulting a Police K-9, and violating the terms of his PRCS. Markoe was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. There were no other injuries resulting from this incident. Markoe was then transported to the Butte County Jail for booking.
