Burglary and Assault on Officer Arrest

On July 28, 2022, at 1:43 in the morning, the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a call of a burglary at the Shell Station at 2230 Esplanade in Chico. Security guards were on scene and observed a man inside the business. He fled from the business. Chico Police arrived and located the man in a business complex just north of the Shell station. When the officer contacted the man, he fled into the business complex. He was caught by the officer but violently resisted. Almost immediately, a Chico Police Sergeant arrived and the two attempted to detain the man who was still violently resisting and attempting to flee. Ultimately the man was caught and detained in handcuffs after a Taser deployment. He continued to violently resist during the entire time he was in custody.
The suspect, identified as 37 year-old Michael Williams, was transported to the Butte County Jail and booked for the following suspected crimes:
459 PC; Burglary
594 (b)(1) PC; Vandalism (felony)
243(b) PC; Assault on a Peace Officer
69 PC; Resist by Violence
148(a)(1) PC; Resisting Arrest
One officer was injured during the incident. He was treated for minor injuries. The suspect also had minor injuries and was treated before booking. No other officers were injured in this incident.
