On 12/12/20, at approximately 1:25 AM, Chico Police Dispatch received a call for service regarding an alarm activation at Kirks Jewelry (246 W. 3rd Street). When officers arrived on scene, they located a window had been broken on the business. Within moments, officers saw the suspect inside the business. The suspect exited the business but refused to comply with officers commands, then fled on foot. Officers were able to detain the suspect near the business. The suspect was taken to Enloe Hospital for injuries he had sustained from the incident.
Once a responsible for the business arrived, several Chico Police Officers entered the business and no other occupants were located. Inside the business several jewelry display cases/windows were broken, and misc. jewelry were found on the floor. The responsible estimated the damage to the business was over $1000.00. However, it was unknown if merchandise was taken.
The suspect, who was a 17-year-old male, was later transported to Butte County Juvenile Hall for the following violations:
459 PC: Commercial Burglary
594(b)(1) PC: Vandalism over $400
148(a)(1) PC: Resisting arrest
245(a)(1) PC: Assault with Deadly Weapon, not a firearm
