Assault with a Deadly Weapon in City Plaza

On the evening of 05/11/2023, The Chico Police Department deployed officers from the CPD TARGET Team as well as School Resource Officers to foot patrol in and around the Thursday Night Market in Downtown Chico. At 7:18 p.m., officers were informed of a large fight involving up to 15 juveniles in the City Plaza at 401 Broadway Street. Officers arrived and found the group actively fighting, with several others standing by watching. Additional patrol officers were called to the scene to assist in gaining control and investigating what occurred. They learned that during a fight involving approximately six juveniles, one of the juveniles, a 15-year-old female, brandished a knife and swung it at another female juvenile. The other female was cut during the altercation, but the wound was determined to be superficial. Several of the involved juveniles fled when officers arrived. Three were contacted and placed in custody for their participation in the fight. In addition to the 15-year-old female, a 17-year-old male and a 14-year-old male were placed in custody for suspicion of the following:
- 15-year-old female: Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- 14-year-old male: Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Carrying Concealed a Dirk or Dagger, Resisting Arrest
- 17-year-old male: Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Based on the ages of those placed in custody, their names will not be released.
