Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Case # 23-004163
On June 26, 2023, at approximately 3:39 a.m., Chico Police Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Forest Avenue for the report of two subjects being shot at from a vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and determined that the two victims were shaken up but uninjured. Officers obtained information that two subjects in a silver sedan had left the parking lot of a local business and fired multiple shots at the victims as they walked through the parking lot. Officers were able to get the suspect and suspect vehicle description from the victims and began actively searching for the vehicle. A local business in the area suffered a broken window from the incident.
Approximately 30 minutes later, an Officer located the vehicle driving on W. 12th Avenue near Fern Avenue. A high-risk stop was conducted on the vehicle. Multiple Officers converged on the location and detained a 16-year-old male juvenile without incident. During the investigation, it was determined that the 16-year-old driver had dropped off a male juvenile passenger at an unknown location in the north Chico area. The passenger was determined to be the shooting suspect. Additionally, Officers determined that the alleged firearm was a CO2-powered BB gun.
Evidence was recovered from the vehicle and the 16-year-old driver was released to the custody of his parents. The investigation is active and ongoing.
