Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Over the last several days, the Chico Police Department has been investigating crimes related to the actions of Mr. Kurtus Locke (38 years of Chico). Neighbors reported Mr. Locke was making verbal threats and shooting firearms outside of his residence on Berkeley Ln, Chico.

On February 25th, Officers received information that Mr. Locke had assaulted an elderly male making Locke arrestable for felony elder abuse.

Around 10:00 p.m. on February 26th, the Chico Police Dispatch Center began receiving calls stating Mr. Locke was outside of his residence yelling threats and shooting firearms. Officers responded to the area, bringing numerous resources to bear on the event. The officers worked diligently to come up with a plan to attempt to bring Mr. Locke into custody and provide safety to the neighborhood while doing this in a manner that decreased the likelihood of a lethal confrontation.

At about 12:45 a.m. on February 27th, Officers received information that Mr. Locke was banging on a neighbor’s window a few minutes after shooting a firearm. Officers utilized an armored vehicle to approach Mr. Locke. Officers ordered Mr. Locke to the ground, and he complied.

Mr. Locke was later transported to Butte County Jail for violations of PC 368; Elder Abuse, PC 245(a)(2); Assault with a Deadly Weapon, PC 422; Criminal Threats and PC 246; Discharge of a Firearm at an Occupied Residence.
