Arrest for Impersonating an Officer

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on 03/10/2022 Chico Police began receiving 911 callers reporting a single male driver was driving in the area of Skyway/E. Park Ave. and MLK Blvd in a small compact car, using red and blue lights to get motorist to pull over. The unsuspecting motorist would then yield to what they believed was law enforcement. The suspect would then drive pass the motorist.

Officers responded to the area and located a vehicle matching the description at the Costco gas station on MLK Blvd. The driver, identified as 59-year-old Robert Holtz of Chico, was contacted, and ultimately admitted to using red and blue lights installed in his headlights to go around other motorists. The lights, determined to be a recently installed aftermarket product, were removed from the vehicle and taken as evidence. Mr. Holtz was arrested for impersonating law enforcement and subsequently booked into the Butte County Jail. Holtz’s vehicle was towed from the arrest location.
