On Saturday 6/19/21, the Chico Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle from the parking lot of the Best Western Heritage Inn in Chico. The victims of the theft were moving out of state and had stopped in Chico for the night to rest at the hotel. The stolen vehicle was a rental moving truck that contained the entire contents of their residence.
On Sunday 6/20/21 at approximately 10:00 AM, a Chico Police
Officer searching for the stolen moving truck located it backed
into a parking stall at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of
Ceres Avenue, Chico. As this occurred, Chico PD Dispatch received
911 reports of suspicious subjects removing a lumber rack from a
“Chico Building Supply” work truck in a nearby neighborhood and
loading property into a utility trailer. The work truck and rack
were determined to have been recently stolen. Witnesses and the
owners of the vehicle attempted to stop the subjects involved in
the incident. Chico Police Officers responded to the scene and
detained MICHAEL HUBBURT (32).
HUBBURT was identified as a suspect in the incident. Stolen property from the rental moving truck and stolen property from additional stolen motor vehicles and burglaries were determined to be in HUBBURT’S possession. HUBBURT was in possession of burglary tools and substantial locksmithing tools.
HUBBURT was arrested for the following crimes:
Possession of Stolen Property
Possession of Burglary Tools
