On October 6, 2021, at about 11:14 pm, Chico Police Dispatch received a call of an intruder in a residence on E. Lassen Avenue. The victim reported that an unknown suspect forced his way into her residence, knocking her to the ground. The suspect was threatening to kill a man who did not live at the location.
Officers responded to the area and located Lawrence Howes (age 57) outside the residence. Howes was in possession of a realistic pellet pistol, a straight blade knife and a box cutter. Through investigation officers learned Howes went to a second residence, pellet pistol in hand, looking for an individual. Howes later admitted to officers that he was looking for a member of his family so he could kill them.
Officers booked Howes into the Butte County Jail for violations of sections 459 PC- Burglary, 368(b)(1) PC- Elder Abuse, and 21310 PC- Possession of a Dirk or Dagger. Due to the seriousness of the case officers requested Howes’ bail be increased.
