Armed Felon Arrested in Downtown Chico

On July 25, 2021, at about 12:00 a.m., Chico Police Officers were on patrol in downtown Chico. Officers responded to 222 Main Street on a report of a subject passed out in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle. Officers contacted the subject and identified him as Rogelio Miguel Martinez (30 years-old). Through investigation, officers determined Martinez was too intoxicated to care for his own safety. Officers arrested Martinez for public intoxication.
Officers developed probable cause to search Martinez’s vehicle. Officers recovered a loaded .40 caliber handgun from inside the car. Martinez was determined to be a convicted felon, and therefore prohibited from possessing firearms.
Martinez was booked into the Butte County Jail for violations of sections 29800(a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and 647(f) PC – Public Intoxication.
