Armed Barricaded Subject Arrested

On 10-2-2022 at approximately 1019 hours, Chico Police Dispatch received information from a reporting party that a female subject and her 6-year-old son were being held against their will by a male subject. The reporting person advised that the male subject was in possession of a firearm. Multiple CPD Officers responded to the scene and established a perimeter around the residence. Announcements were made and the female victim and her son were able to escape the residence to the safety of awaiting officers at the scene. The female victim confirmed the male suspect was armed with a handgun which was later verified by an Officer at the scene.

Members of the Chico PD Crisis Negotiators Team (CNT) were summoned to the scene and engaged with the subject over the phone, who had barricaded himself inside the home. Negotiators talked to the subject for approximately 1 hour and ultimately convinced him to surrender. The subject exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident. The subject, identified as 24-year-old Danny Mendoza-Hancock, was arrested on multiple charges and was booked into the Butte County Jail.

This incident has been handed over to the Chico Police Department Criminal Investigation Section. A press release update will be disseminated with a full list of charges once the investigation is complete.
