On February 23, 2021, at approximately 5:00 PM Chico Police Dispatch received a report of an alleged animal cruelty incident. Officers contacted the reporting party, who stated her coworker’s 14lb dog was kicked in the head, causing major injuries. The reporting party identified the suspect as 23-year-old Brandon Chin. Chin was currently in a relationship with the dog’s owner. The dog was taken to a local veterinary hospital, but his injuries were so significant, he had to be euthanized.
Chico Police Detectives contacted the attending veterinarian and learned the dog sustained multiple skull fractures and contusions. Based on information gathered during the investigation, it was determined that Chin was responsible for causing the dog’s injuries. With the help of Butte County Probation, Chin was arrested for 597(a) PC- cruelty to an animal resulting in a wound/death. Chin was transported to Butte County Jail.
