Shooting

Case# 20-003626

On July 7, 2020, at approximately 0037 hours, Chico Police Department received reports of shots fired and a vehicle leaving at a high rate of speed in the area of Mountain View Mobile Acres located at 3156 Esplanade, Chico, CA. When Officers arrived, they located evidence of a shooting. Officers discovered the residence of 3156 Esplanade, Space 244 and a vehicle were struck by gunfire. Inside the residence, a resident was also struck, but received non-life threatening injuries.

Death in a Public Right of Way

Case# 20-003567

On 07/04/2020 at 7:35am, a resident was passing in the area of 2471 Cohasset Road. The resident noticed a subject seated against the wall inside a dumpster enclosure at the above location. The subject was slumped over and he appeared to be unresponsive. The reporting resident also noted the subject appeared to not be breathing. Emergency services were summoned to the scene and arrived within 2 minutes. Fire and EMS personnel performed life saving measures on the unresponsive subject for several minutes while at the scene.

Stabbing

Case# 20-003540

On 7/2/20, at approximately 9:45 hours, Chico Police Officers were dispatched to 20th Street Park for a reporting stabbing. When officers arrived, they located a male victim who had been stabbed multiple times but the suspect(s) had fled the scene. Due to the victim’s injuries, he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Business Burglary

Case# 20-003509

The Chico Police Department received a call of burglary this morning around 6:30 AM at Tong Fong Low’s restaurant. Police arrived to find a broken window and located evidence that someone had entered the building. The loss to the business was not immediately known. Patrol Officers are following up on this investigation and this release will be updated if further information is developed.

Drowning

Chico Police and Fire Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 1239 hours regarding a possible drowning in Big Chico Creek near Highway 99. Police Department and Fire Department personnel arrived at that location and located a female subject in the creek. Chico Fire Department personnel along with Butte County EMS personnel provided aid to the female subject. The female was transported to Enloe Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. The victim’s identification is known and release is pending next of kin notification.

Robbery in Upper Bidwell Park

Case# 20-003376

On 6/24/20, Officers were dispatched to Upper Bidwell Park regarding a report of a robbery. Officers contacted the victim near Horseshoe Lake. The victim reported that they were sitting in their vehicle when they were approached by a Hispanic male adult. The suspect had a knife in his hand and demanded the victim’s property. The victim complied and the suspect fled the area in a black four door sedan. The suspect vehicle was occupied by several other adults and children. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle or suspect.

Shooting and Stabbing

Case# 20-003315

On 6/21/20 just before 11:00pm, the Chico Police Department began receiving multiple 911 calls regarding a shooting that had occurred on the 1900 block of Locust St., Chico. Information came in informing us that at least one person had also been stabbed and was possibly headed to Enloe Medical Center. Officers responded to both locations to assist in the investigation.

Death in a Public Right of Way

Case# 20-003302

On 06/21/2020 at 8:11am, a resident was walking in the area of Lindo Channel near E. Lindo and Arbutus Avenues. The resident noticed a subject who was lying near on his side and appeared to be unresponsive. The reporting resident also noticed the subject appeared to not be breathing at the time. Emergency services were summoned to the scene and arrived within 3 minutes. After assessing the subject, the 42 year old male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Home Invasion

Case# 20-003282

On 6/20/20, at approximately 4 p.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a call of a home invasion robbery which had just occurred in the 300 block of west 4th Avenue in Chico. Officers arrived within minutes and met with the victims. The suspect(s) had fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. One of the victims of this crime suffered significant injury at the hands of the suspect, but is expected to recover from his injuries.

Vandalism

Case# 20-003069

On June 8, 2020, at approximately 2357 hours, Chico Police Officers were dispatched to a local Assisted Living Facility for an individual that had broken a window and entered the building. Officers responded and when they arrived, they contacted a male, later identified as Robert LEAVELL, age 61, walking out of the facility.

Officers learned LEAVELL broke a glass door and entered the room of an elderly resident. Once inside, employees rushed to the room and had LEAVELL exit the facility.

Missing Person

Case# 20-002822

Chico, CA – On 05-26-20, the Chico Police Department received information from the family of Dawn Elizabeth Blankenheim that she had not been seen or heard from since 05-15-20. The family has expressed concern for Dawn and at this time her whereabouts are unknown. Dawn does not drive a vehicle and her clothing description is unknown. She is listed as being 5-02 tall with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Cancel Missing Person/ UPDATE

Case# 20-002899

**On 5/30/20, at 12:30 a.m., a Chico Police Officer located Mr. Garduno driving in his vehicle in central Chico. He was found to be in good health but was lost and tired. His dog was also with him, also tired but in good health. Both were reunited with family. The Chico Police Department is grateful for the assistance and concern of the public in the search for Mr. Garduno.**

Tobacco and Vape Decoy Operation

Case#'s 20-002843, 20-002845, 20-002847, 20-002849, 20-002850, 20-002852

The Chico Police Departments School Resource Unit cited six clerks for selling tobacco/vape products to minors on May 27, 2020. The actions were the result of a youth decoy program in which minors, under the direct supervision of officers, attempted to purchase tobacco or vape products from 13 tobacco retail licensees in the City of Chico. The goal of this operation was to limit youth access to tobacco and vape products, and to confirm that local businesses are operating within compliance with the law. Shooting

Case# 20-002790

 On 5/24/20, at 9:14 p.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center began receiving 911 calls of several gunshots heard in the area of the 800 block of E. 19th Street in south Chico. As officers were responding to the area, several more calls came in of multiple people running from the area. Officers began an area check and located an apparent crime scene. At that same time, CPD Dispatch received a call from Enloe Medical Center of a gunshot victim arriving at the hospital.

Barricaded Subject- Domestic Violence

Case# 20-002693

On 5/19/2020 at approximately 1915 hours, Chico Police Officers were dispatched to Motel 6, 665 Manzanita Ct., for a report of a domestic dispute. Officers arrived and contacted the victim. After speaking to the victim Officers learned she had been the victim of misdemeanor domestic violence. Officers at scene, specially trained in negotiations, contacted the male suspect via telephone. The suspect was alone, intoxicated, and refused to come out of his motel room due to a fear of going to jail. Motel guests near the suspects room were temporarily evacuated for their safety.

Pedestrian Shoots at Passing Motorist in Broad Daylight

Case#: 20-002330

On 4/28/20 at approximately 1555 hours, Chico Police Dispatch received reports of a subject firing a handgun at a moving vehicle in the area of E. 16th Street and C Street. The suspect fled prior to Officers arrival.

Officers arrived on scene and contacted the victim, who reported observing a subject fire a handgun at his vehicle. The vehicle was occupied by the victim, and two sleeping children. Based on witness statements, it appears that this incident may have been gang related. As this is an active investigation, no further information can be released at this time.

Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling on Cypress Street

Case#: 20-002288

On April 25, 2020 at 1:08 AM, the Chico Police Department received multiple reports of shots fired in the area of Cypress St. and Humboldt Ave. Officers arrived in the area and located evidence of a shooting. While canvassing the neighborhood officers discovered the residence at 755 Humboldt Ave had been struck by gunfire. There was also at least one vehicle in the area struck by gunfire. No persons were injured.

Death Investigation behind 25 Main Street

Case#: 20-002284

On 4-24-20 at about 1100 hours, Chico Police Department dispatch received a report of a male, in his 50-60’s, sitting in the creek behind 25 Main Street. The caller said the water was up to the male’s chest, but that he “Seemed extremely out of it.” While officers responded to the scene, the caller reported the male had fallen into the water and that she was running down to help. Officers arrived on scene to find an employee from the Chico Research Foundation administering CPR on the male. CPR efforts were taken over by Chico Police Officers, Enloe Medics, and Chico Fire personnel.
