Willful Discharge of a Firearm in a Grossly Negligent Manner
Case# 21-002645
On 5-2-21 at approximately 10:47 pm, the Chico Police Department
Communication Center started receiving calls of a shooting in the
alleyway behind 515 Hickory Street. The reporting party observed
a male subject fire two shots at another male subject in the
alleyway. Both subjects fled the area just after the shooting
occurred.
Officers from the Chico Police Department responded to the scene
and searched for the involved parties; however, they were not
located. Officer contacted witnesses and canvased the area for
evidence. Officers did locate evidence that a shooting occurred.
Traffic Collision
Case# 21-002617
On 05/01/2021, around 9:22 AM, the Chico Police Department
received a report of a traffic collision at Cohasset Rd. and
Eaton Rd. The initial reports stated one driver had been ejected
from a vehicle during the collision. Medical personnel were
nearby and arrived on scene quickly.
The investigation revealed one vehicle was seen driving
recklessly south on Cohasset Rd. just prior to the accident.
Witnesses saw the vehicle enter the intersection at Eaton Rd.
against a red light and broadside a vehicle traveling east
through the intersection on Eaton Rd.
Council Meeting
UPDATE 5-4-21 2:27PM With help from the community, the three women depicted in the surveillance video causing a disturbance at the Chico City Council meeting have been identified. Two women have been cited for violation of 403 PC, and a warrant has been submitted to the Butte County District Attorney’s office for the third subject. Two of the women are Chico residents, and the third is a Sutter County resident. The case has been investigated and submitted to the Butte County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Suspicious Circumstances
Case# 21-002393
On 4/19/21, at approximately 5:33 PM, Chico Police Officers responded to a local business regarding a suspicious circumstance regarding a subject that had attempted to “grab” a child. Officers responded to the business and contacted the reporting party, an involved party, and the subject. The investigating officer obtained additional information regarding the incident. The officers are looking for additional evidence to determine if a criminal act occurred. This is an on-going investigation.
Shooting on E. Lassen Ave.
Case# 21-001956
On 03/31/2021 at approximately 2230 hours Chico Police received several 911 calls regarding a shooting that had just occurred on E. Lassen Ave near Godman Ave. Officers responded to the area and shut down traffic on E. Lassen Ave at Godman Ave. to search for evidence. Officers conducted an area check and found several spent shell casings in the roadway.
Shooting
Case# 21-001881
On March 29, 2021, at about 03:09 a.m., Chico Police Officers
responded to Enloe Hospital to contact a male who was being
treated for a single gunshot wound. The victim was dropped off at
the hospital by subjects who immediately fled the area.
The victim of the shooting is expected to survive. Officers
believe the shooting occurred somewhere in the Chico area.

Negligent Discharge of a Firearm
Case# 21-001877
On March 29, 2021, at about 12:03 a.m., Chico Police Officers responded to the Hidden Oaks Apartments at 650 Hickory Street. A victim reported his unoccupied vehicle had been struck by gunfire. Another victim was on scene and reported his vehicle had also been struck by gunfire four days prior. Through investigation officers determined the gunfire likely originated from an adjacent apartment complex at 1521 W. 5th Street. Additionally, Officers found a residence on W. 5th Street that had also been struck by gunfire.
Drive By Shootings
Case# 21-001769
On 03/23/21, just before 7 p.m., the Chico Police Department began receiving calls of a shooting that had just occurred at an apartment complex in the 700 block of W. East Ave. in Chico.
Officers responded to find several vehicles struck by gunfire, and after a canvass of the area, Officers determined no one had been struck by gunfire. The intended target(s) of the shooter are unknown. There was limited information and witnesses. Crime Scene Investigators responded and processed the scene.
Death in the Public Right of Way
Case# 21-00
On 03/21/21, at 12:49 pm, the Chico Police and Fire Dispatch Center received a report of a medical emergency on the Upper Rim Trail of Bidwell Park, approximately 1 mile east of the Easter Cross landmark. Chico Fire Department Emergency Medical Services, Butte EMS, and Enloe Flight Care responded to the incident and located an unresponsive 75-year-old male. Life saving measures were attempted, but the man was declared deceased.
Citizen’s Arrest
The Chico Police Department would like to address what is involved in making a citizen’s arrests. Peace Officer’s in the State of California are charged with upholding Municipal, State and Federal laws. If a citizen sees a crime that has occurred, is occurring, or about to occur, law enforcement should be contacted immediately, and the citizen should avoid taking matters into their own hands.
Human Remains Discovered
Case# 21-001232
On 02-27-2021 at 9:18 AM, the Chico Police Department received a report of some human remains located in an area east of Chico near Hwy 32. The reporting party who was in the area walking his dogs located the remains and immediately called the police. Officers responded to the area and secured the scene. With the assistance of the Butte County Sheriff’s office and Chico State Anthropology unit, the remains were processed and recovered.
Shooting
Case# 21-01059
On February 19, 2021, at about 11:29 pm, Chico Police Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Cedar Street for a reported shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located the victim of an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
Chico Police Officers are continuing to investigate the incident. We are asking anyone with information about this incident to please call the Chico Police Department at 530-897-4911.
Vehicle Collision
Case# 21-000862
On 02/11/2021 at 0007 hours Chico Police Officers responded to a single vehicle accident on Ivy St. at the Little Chico Creek bridge. The driver of a 2013 Nissan was driving southbound on Ivy St. at a very high rate of speed when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway on the north side of the creek. The vehicle then struck a fence and gate surrounding the creek before going airborne across the creek. On the south side of the creek the vehicle struck a tree.
Negligent Discharge of a Firearm
Case# 21-000729
On 02/05/21, around 3:50 PM, Chico Police Dispatch received several calls reporting shots fired in the backyard of 1115 Olive St. Police units responded along with a member of the BCBH Mobile Crisis Unit. Officers attempted to contact the resident for about an hour utilizing a police vehicle’s public address speaker. Kathleen Eberhardt eventually walked out to yell at the officers and demand they leave her property. She was detained without incident.
Shooting outside of Warming Center
Case# 21-000720
On February 5th, 2021 at approximately 1:40 a.m. a security guard working at the City of Chico warming center, was standing outside when he saw several subjects on the opposite side of the street, get into a vehicle that appeared to arrive for the purpose of picking them up. As the 3 or 4 subjects entered the vehicle, one subject, for unknown reasons, pulled out a semi auto handgun and fired the weapon twice into the air. The suspect then got into the passenger area of the vehicle and all left northbound on Cedar St. toward W. 3rd St.
Missing Adult
21-000675
UPDATE:
***On 2/2/21, at approximately 9:53 PM, a citizen contacted Chico
Police and stated he believed he had located the missing person
on the 2200th block of Humboldt Rd. Chico Police responded and
contacted Eileen Moore. Ms. Moore was found in good health and
returned to her family. The Chico Police Department is grateful
for the assistance from the public in the search of Ms. Moore.***
Child Annoyance/Suspicious Circumstances
Case# 21-000374
On January 19th, 2021, at approximately 5:00 pm, Chico Police officers responded to the 2300 block of Pillsbury Road on the report of a suspicious circumstance. Officers arrived and met with a female juvenile victim and a family member who wanted to report a suspicious circumstance – possible child annoyance. Officers learned from the victim that an older male followed her in the North Valley Plaza Shopping Center throughout the afternoon. Due to the suspicious nature of the suspect’s actions, the victim became scared and ran to a nearby business to report the suspicious person.
Elderly Woman Found After Becoming Lost on Walk
Case# 21-000173
On 1/9/21, Chico Police Dispatch received a report of a missing 80-year-old woman, Flora Hodge. Hodge was a resident of a local Care Facility. Employees discovered her missing after conducting a routine check of the facility. Hodge had exited the facility and began walking in the area alone. Due to Hodge’s age, time of night, and the irregularity of the behavior, additional resources were utilized. Chico Fire Department, Butte County Search and Rescue, and Butte County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search for Hodge.
Shooting
Case# 21-000111
On 1/6/21, at approximately 8:17 hours, Chico Police Dispatch received multiple 911 calls regarding a shot seen at 711 (308 Walnut Street, Chico). As Chico Police Officers and Chico Police VSU Detectives were responding to the scene, a possible victim vehicle and suspect vehicle information was provided. Once officers arrived at 711, a vehicle that had damage was located. Witnesses described the suspect as a male carry a bag leaving the area. As officers canvased the area, evidence that a shooting had occurred was located. No gunshot victims were located.
Death in a Public Right of Way
Case# 21-000035
On 01/02/21, at 1:20 pm, a park goer reported seeing an
unresponsive man in a camp near the east end of Sycamore Pool in
Bidwell Park. Chico Police and Chico Fire emergency services were
summoned to the scene. After assessing the man, the 58 year old
male was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no obvious
signs of criminality located.
This press release is in response to a request to notify media
outlets of a death located in the public right of way.
