Indecent Exposure

Case # 23-003809

On June 9, 2023, at approximately 6:00 PM, Chico Police were dispatched to Upper Bidwell Park. A citizen advised while she was walking in Upper Bidwell Park with her two dogs, she witnessed a male subject exposing himself and touch his genitalia in front of her. The suspect is described as a white male adult, wearing no shirt, blue athletic shorts, and a red hat. The citizen indicated the suspect left the area on an unknown type of bicycle.

Wanted Subject Arrested

Case # 23-003806

On June 9th, 2023, at approximately 5:30 pm, Chico Police Detectives located a wanted subject near the intersection of E. 3rd Street and Wall Street. The wanted subject was positively identified as Benjamin Miranda, 28 years old, of Chico. Miranda has a history of weapons use and was wanted on a parole violation from the California Department of Corrections/Rehabilitation.

Fatal Collision

Case # 23-003702

On June 6th at about 9:30 p.m. Chico Police Officers located a stolen blue Dodge sedan in the 1300 block of East Ave.  The vehicle drove through the intersection of East Ave and Mariposa Ave.  The officer activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed westbound on East Ave.  The officer elected not to pursue the stolen vehicle due to the dangers associated with high-speed driving in a residential area with wet roads and poor lighting.

National Night Out

The Chico Police Department, in partnership with the local community, is excited to announce its participation in the 2023 annual National Night Out (NNO) event on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. This initiative aims to foster community engagement, strengthen neighborhood bonds, and promote safety and crime prevention.

Suspicious Object

Case # 23-003508

This evening at about 8:00 p.m. the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a call for service in the 100 block of W. East Ave regarding a suspicious package placed near the entrance to a retail business. 

Officers arrived on scene and agreed the device appeared suspicious and determined it was unsafe to further inspect the device without additional equipment and training.  The officers cordoned off the area and asked businesses in the area to evacuate.  The Butte County Inter-Agency Bomb Squad was called to the scene to assist.

Armed Subject Arrested

Case # 23-003218

On 05/17/2023, at approximately 3:52 PM, the Chico Police Department responded to an address on New Dawn Circle in Chico for a report of a disturbance involving two subjects. Officers arrived on scene and contacted one of the involved, who was later determined to be the victim. The victim told officers a subject, later identified as Silas McFall, 20 years old of Chico, had fled the scene in a vehicle. The victim then told officers McFall had confronted him at the residence over a social media post.

Early Morning Thefts

Case # 23-003213

On 05/20/2023, at approximately 6:35 AM, Chico Police Dispatch received two separate and unrelated calls regarding thefts that were occurring. The first reported incident was located in the 400 block of W. 9th Street, where a female suspect was seen by a witness crawling into a locked garage through a window. Officers arrived on scene, and after conducting their investigation, Heidi Kelly, 43 years of age, was arrested for burglary.

Officer Assaulted During Arrest

Case # 23-003213

On 05/20/2023, at approximately 3:10 AM, Chico Police Officers responded to an address on Luciano Circle for a report of domestic violence. CPD officers quickly arrived on scene and contacted the involved parties. During the investigation, it was determined the suspect was a juvenile female who did not live at the residence. When officers attempted to detain the female suspect, she became combative and physically resisted both officers. The suspect then proceeded to kick the first officer in the side of the head.

Mass Shooting Incident Update

On May 6, 2023, around 12:27 a.m., Chico Police Patrol Officers were dispatched to a large party in the 700 block of W. 7th Street, where it was reported several rounds from a firearm were discharged.

Battery with Serious Bodily Injury

Case # 23-3107

On 5/16/23, around 7:55 PM, Chico Police Department Officers responded to the parking lot of Costco for a reported assault. They located the victim unconscious with a significant head wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where the victim is still in critical condition.

Officers located the suspect nearby and they eventually arrested the suspect for battery, causing serious bodily injury. The suspect was booked into Butte County Jail.

Physical Fight and Discharge of a Firearm

Case # 23-003052

On 5/15/23 at 9:50 PM, Chico Police Officers responded to 1055 E. Lassen Ave. on a report of a subject discharging a firearm in public.  Several subjects fled the area prior to police arrival. Officers discovered there had been a fight in the area, and during that fight one subject discharged a firearm in the air. At this time, we do not have a suspect description to release. No one was harmed during the discharge of the firearm, but there were some injuries resulting from the associated fight.

Burglary Arrest

Case # 23-003035

On May 15, 2023, at approximately 3:17 a.m., a Chico Police Officer patrolling the area of Mangrove Avenue and E. 1st Avenue noticed an audible alarm at Bottoms Up Espresso. The officer then noticed a female subject standing at the door to the business as the alarm was sounding. The officer pulled into the business to contact the female and she fled northbound on Mangrove Avenue. Other officers responded to the scene and contacted the female a short distance away. The female was identified as 50-year-old Brook Kitchen of Chico.

Wanted Subject Arrested

Case # 23-003020

On May 13th, 2023 at approximately 9:48 pm, Chico Police Officers were checking a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a business in the 2000 block of E. 20th Street. As the officer was speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, the officer recognized a subject who was also associated with the vehicle. This subject was walking toward the front of the business. The officer recognized Oliver Anderson, 39 yrs. old of Oroville, from previous law enforcement contacts. The officer knew Anderson had a history of weapons and was currently on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS).

Daytime Shooting

Case # 23-002990

On 5/12/2023, at 12:24 p.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding shots seen on N. Cedar Street at W. 1st Avenue in West Chico. The caller stated they saw two men get out of a vehicle stopped at that intersection and get into an argument with a man walking nearby. During the argument, one of the men who exited the vehicle pulled out a gun and shot toward the man who was walking. The two suspects then got into the vehicle and fled the area northbound on N. Cedar Street. The man who was shot at continued walking southbound on N. Cedar Street.

Shooting Suspect Arrested for 7th Street Party Incident

Case # 23-002840

On 5/6/23 at approximately 12:07 AM, Chico Police Officers were sent to the 700 block of W. 7th Street, Chico, for a report of a shooting. As Officers were arriving on scene, they learned that the suspects had fled the area. Officers learned that several subjects had been attempting to enter a house party. When residents did not allow the subject to enter the party, the subject struck one of the victims on the head with a handgun.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon in City Plaza

Case # 23-002981

On the evening of 05/11/2023, The Chico Police Department deployed officers from the CPD TARGET Team as well as School Resource Officers to foot patrol in and around the Thursday Night Market in Downtown Chico. At 7:18 p.m., officers were informed of a large fight involving up to 15 juveniles in the City Plaza at 401 Broadway Street. Officers arrived and found the group actively fighting, with several others standing by watching. Additional patrol officers were called to the scene to assist in gaining control and investigating what occurred.

Homicide Investigation Update

Case # 23-002879

As previously reported by Chief of Police B. Aldridge during his press conference later that morning, on 05/06/23 at approximately 0330 hours, CPD officers were dispatched to a shooting near the 1000 block of Columbus Avenue.  Several callers reported that unknown suspect(s) fired multiple rounds from a moving vehicle before fleeing the area.  Responding officers identified six victims at the scene who were struck by gunfire.  With one victim refusing, five of the victims were taken to an area hospital for treatment.  Sadly, one of the victims did not survive.

Shots Fired into Residence

Case # 23-002879

On May 8, 2023 at approximately 2:09 a.m., Chico Police Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Arch Way for the report of shots fired into a residence. Officers arrived in the area and were contacted by alert citizens in the area that saw two males running near the intersection of Marigold Avenue and East Avenue. A CPD Officer in the area observed the two individuals at the roundabout near Wildwood Park, and a perimeter was established. One of the suspects, a 14-year-old male juvenile, was quickly taken into custody. The second male remained outstanding in the area.

Early Morning Robbery

Case # 23-002863

On May 7th, 2023, at 4:52 a.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a call from an employee of the Walgreens store at 860 East Avenue in Chico, reporting a robbery had just occurred there. A man had entered the store and walked behind the checkout counter with a crowbar in his hand. The man pried open one of the registers and took an unknown amount of money from inside the register. He then fled out the front door on foot. Officers responded and began an area check for the suspect, but he was not located.
