DUI Checkpoint Results
The Chico Police Department conducted a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on Friday April 29th, 2022. The checkpoint was located on the Esplanade at 11th Avenue for northbound traffic. The checkpoint was open from 9:15 P.M. to 1:30 A.M. During that 4-hour and 15-minute period, 372 vehicles came through the checkpoint. One driver was cited for not having a valid license and another was served proper notice for having a suspended license. There were no arrests for driving under the influence.
Chico Police Assist with Homicide Arrest
Case# 22-002447
On 4/22/22, Chico Police Crisis Response Unit (CRU), and Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force Agents (BINTF) assisted Union City Police Department with a suspect apprehension detail. Union City Police Department (UCPD) contacted Chico Police Department requesting assistance with a homicide investigation. UCPD was investigating an incident that occurred on April 9th, in which 43-year-old Karim Zepeda Martinez was murdered. The murder occurred within the jurisdiction of UCPD. UCPD possessed an Arrest Warrant for Antonio Rodriguez (24 yrs) and Miranda King
Sobriety and Driver’s License Checkpoint Notification
The Chico Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Friday, April 29th , 2022 at Esplanade and 11th Avenue. It will begin at 9pm and will run for approximately 4 1/2 hours. Traffic flowing through the checkpoint will be contacted by uniformed officers, who will be checking for alcohol and/or drugimpaired drivers. Officers will also check to make sure all drivers have a valid driver’s license.
Subject Arrested for Residential Burglary

On 4/25/2022 at 12:42 AM, a Chico Police Officer was contacted by a citizen near Whitewood Way and Floral Avenue. The citizen said an unknown male subject went into his unlocked car and used the garage opener to access his garage. The citizen said the suspect, later identified as David Siler of Chico, took a bicycle from the garage and fled. A description was provided to other Chico Police Officers who were in the area. An alert Officer located a subject matching the suspect’s description, on a bicycle, near Cohasset Rd and Pillsbury.
K9 Pax Apprehends Violent Offender
Case#22-002464
On April 22, 2022, at approximately 10:13 pm, Chico Police Officers responded to the 2200 block of Notre Dame Boulevard to investigate a domestic violence incident. During the investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest 31-year-old Chico resident Johnathan Johns for felony domestic violence. Johns was also found to have a felony warrant for his arrest out of Butte County. Officers determined that Johns was hiding in a nearby apartment. Officers attempted numerous de-escalation methods; however, Johns refused to surrender.
Burglary Suspect Arrested
On 3/29/22 a citizen contacted the Chico Police Department to report a burglary of a business in south Chico. The thief was able to steal approximately $2,000 worth of work tools. On 4/11/22 CPD Officers responded to a reported burglary at a different commercial business in south Chico. Several vehicles at the victim business had been burglarized, resulting in a substantial loss.
Purported Shooting at Cinemark Movie Theatre
Case# 22-002327
On Saturday April 16th, just after 7:00 pm, Chico Police Department Dispatch began receiving numerous calls reporting a shooting inside the Tinseltown Cinemark movie theatre (801 East Ave. Chico, CA). Based on the information received, all available Chico Police Officers responded to the scene presuming an active shooter was inside the theatre. The first officer was on scene within 2 minutes of Dispatch receiving the first call.
Missing Juvenile

On 4/13/22, at approximately 12:30PM, Miles Chumney, age 13, was reported to the Chico Police Department as a runaway. Miles was last seen at approximately 10:00 PM last night in the area of Downing Ave and E.Lindo Ave. Chico, CA. Miles was upset when he walked off and did not return home. It is unknown where Miles was last night and his family is concerned about him.
Major Injury Collison
Case#22-002246
On 04/12/2022 at 8:25 PM, Chico Police Officers were dispatched to a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision that occurred near the intersection of E 5th Avenue and Spruce Avenue. Officers arrived on scene along with medical personnel. It was determined that a pedestrian on a skateboard had been struck by a vehicle that fled the area. The pedestrian suffered major injuries as a result of being struck by the vehicle and was transported to a local hospital.

DUI Driver Arrested Following Pursuit and Crash

In the early morning hours of Sunday April 10th, 2022, Chico Police Officers were in the 2500 block of Cohasset Rd., looking for a reported drunk driver that had just left the parking lot of a local bar.

DUI Checkpoint Nets 2 DUI Arrests
The Chico Police Department conducted a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on Thursday March 31st, 2022. The checkpoint was located on Walnut Street (S/R 32) between W. 2nd Street and W. 3rd Street. The checkpoint was open from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
During that 4-hour period, 625 vehicles came through the checkpoint. 2 subjects were arrested for DUI and their vehicles were towed from the scene. In addition to those arrested, 9 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle while unlicensed or with a suspended license.
Armed Subject Arrested after Discharging a Firearm
Case# 22-002131
On 4/3/2022 at approximately 9:16 PM, the Chico Police Department Dispatch center received multiple 911 calls about a shooting in the 500 block of East Avenue. Officers arrived on scene within minutes and located a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved in the shooting. A high-risk enforcement stop was conducted and one subject was detained. The subject was later identified as Francisco Martinez.

Commercial Burglary Arrest
Case# 22-001992
On 04/01/2022 at approximately 1718 hours Chico Police dispatch received a call from employees at Best Buy, located at 2005 Forest Ave. Employees advised a female entered the store, placed multiple items inside a shopping cart and walked out the front doors without paying. Employees who witnessed the theft attempted to contact and stop the suspect. The female refused to stop, and employees did not detain or restrain her in anyway. The suspect entered a red Jeep driven by an unknown male with the stolen property and left.
Cesar Chavez Activity 2022
As expected, activity in Chico for the Cesar Chavez holiday was busy. With the return of students from Chico State University from Spring Break, the holiday has, historically, seen an increase in south campus celebrations.
Grand Theft Arrest
22-001965
On 03/31/2022 at approximately 2015 hours Chico Police dispatch received a call from a business owner in the 2300 block of Park Ave. The owner, calling from his home, told dispatch that he has a live screen security system of the fenced yard of his business. The owner said he could see a male suspect inside the fenced in area going through different items.

Prowling and Theft Arrest
Case# 22-1859
On 3/27/22 at approximately 2:36 PM, CPD Officers responded to the 1300 block of Salem St. for a reported bicycle theft in-progress. The reporting party said the suspect, later identified as Omar Rivera-Martinez, attempted to steal a bicycle belonging to their neighbor. Officers responded to the scene and attempted to contact Rivera-Martinez. Rivera-Martinez immediately fled into several backyards of residences in the area.
