Warming & Cooling Center

Due to the continued inclement hot weather, the City of Chico has initiated the activation of the emergency cooling center for Wednesday, June 16 through Monday, June 21, 2021. The Cooling Center is located at the North End of Depot Park on 5th and Cedar Streets, and open from 12:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m.

The cooling center consists of a tent structure canopy with water misters for those seeking respite from the extreme heat. Personal belongings must be left outside of the tent area and pets must always remain leashed. Due to COVID-19, masks are recommended for those who have not been vaccinated in the Cooling Center.

The Emergency Cooling Center is activated where weather forecasts show the temperature staying at or above 100 degrees Fahrenheit with no precipitation for several consecutive days. City staff continues to monitor weather conditions for additional activations.
