Leaf Pickup 2021

Homepage Redirect (not included in search)

The City of Chico Public Works Department will begin the annual Leaf Collection Program on November 1, 2021!

This service provides a convenient way for our residents to dispose of their leaves, as well as helping to prevent flooding, reducing organic loading to the creeks, and keeping our roadways and bike lanes clear.

City residents may piles their leaves in the street in front of their homes, keeping aware of the following:

  • Leaves only – no branches, prunings, plastic bags, or trash.
  • Keep piles under 4 feet high, 1 foot away from the curb, out of bicycle lanes, and away from storm drain inlets.
  • Routine street sweeping is suspended from November to January each year.
  • No additional leaves may be placed in the street after the last residential pickup in January.

The leaf collection route begins in the southwest section of the City and progresses northerly in a clockwise direction until the entire City is serviced. The process is then repeated. The route takes approximately 4-6 weeks to complete.

Due to the varying amount of leaf drop, and the fact that our Leaf Pickup crews may get assigned to emergency services, the City does not maintain a set schedule to collect residential leaves.

After the last pickup in January 2022, residents may not place additional leaves in the street.
